Arts at the Palace presents:

Opening Artist Exhibition: Lowell Hutcheson | Vistige

When: Friday, October 30th at 5:30 PM

Where: Hamilton Center for the Arts | 16 Broad St., Hamilton, NY

Visit the Hamilton Center for the Arts at 5:30pm for the Opening Exhibition, Vestige, by ceramicist Lowell Hutcheson. Then head over to the Palace Theater at 6pm for the Dance on Film Premiere & Costume Party! An evening celebrating dance, film, visual art, and the creative community of Central New York.

Vestige is a series of wheel-thrown ceramic sculptures made from raw clay and slips harvested in part from the shore of Lake Ontario, ranging from intimate vessels to pieces standing several feet tall. Born of the artist’s climate anxiety, the work sits at the intersection of geologic time and ecological urgency, asking what will remain if we continue ignoring the systems that sustain us.

“Working in raw clay and slips harvested in part from the shore of Lake Ontario, I create ceramic sculptures on the wheel. From intimate vessels to large-scale sculptures standing several feet tall, my focus is on texture and forms. From afar, each vessel may appear simple, but up close they reveal an intricate surface full of cracks, pitting, and variations of its making. My work asks what it means to create objects that have survived countless civilizations. As the lake faces mounting pressure from a changing climate, these pieces sit at the intersection of geologic time and ecological urgency, asking what remains when systems, natural or human, begin to fail.” - Lowell Hutcheson
